The blender option

August 19th, 2007

Design firms, unlike ad agencies which usually present a final campaign, give the client more than one design option for a project. For a web design project, the design firm might present two entirely different approaches to the client. Those two final designs are completely different approaches within the guidelines of the project. They are an ideal composition of space, color and content and have been developed to the best of its class.

Now comes the time to present to the client (most likely a group of people) and initial responses are enthusiastic. The presentation ends and clients have time in their offices to study the solutions and meet with their peers about it.

Most of the time the client decides for one of the two options, minor modifications might occur. Sometimes an unfortunate event of things brings out the blender option. The client decides to pick and choose random elements of each design and throws them into the blender. They are all happy about the thorough work they have done for you and leave you with the minor task of turning the blender on and show them the newest, ultimate version.

These are the times when I wish I was an astronaut, a race car driver, an archeologist or maybe work at jamba juice, where thorough blending is a good thing.
