Corporate Identity
Why is it so important?
In the marketing world, the corporate identity (or short CI) is the "personality" of a given company which is designed to represent the company to the outside world and to help to achieve business objectives. It is presented to the public by all means of branding and the use of trademarks.
"Corporate identity comes into being when there is a common ownership of an organisational philosophy which is manifest in a distinct corporate culture - the corporate personality. At its most profound, the public feel that they have ownership of the philosophy." (Balmer, 1995).
Corporate Identity is often viewed as being composed of three parts:
Corporate Design (logos, website, stationery, uniforms, etc.)
Corporate Communication (commercials, public relations, information, etc.)
Corporate Behavior (internal values, norms, etc.)

Corporate identity is the technique to develop a particular look which is then applied to a logo, website, corporate folders, billboards, etc. within a set of style guides. These guidelines describe how the identity is applied and conforms to colors, typefaces, layouts and other methods of maintaining visual continuity and recognition of the brand.
Many companies, have their own identity run through all of their products, merchandise and services. The logo appears consistently throughout the packaging and advertisements. Companies hire the best firms and strive for an identity that is extremely distinguishable, so it can appeal more to its targeted audience.
